Ben-Gurion House in Tel Aviv is preparing to reopen to the public in early December. A report published by Tel Aviv Online on Thursday, October 22, said thousands of books and historical objects had returned to the building following conservation work. The update did not give an exact reopening date.

A private home with a public purpose

The address is 17 Ben-Gurion Boulevard, the former home of David and Paula Ben-Gurion. Israel’s first prime minister left the house and his library to the state. Its official website explains that he intended them to serve reading, study and research.

The collection also reveals the breadth of his interests: philosophy, religions, cultures and classical texts in several languages. Alongside books he bought are volumes presented by their authors with personal dedications. These objects offer a way to explore his reading and thinking beyond the public events associated with his name.

What to check before visiting

Anyone hoping to include the site in a day out should distinguish its current activities from visits to the historical building after reopening. The official website currently directs activity participants to an entrance at 18 Lassalle Street. That notice should not be taken as confirmation of December’s entrance arrangements.

The house lists 03-522-1010 for enquiries and group coordination. Before travelling, confirm the activity you want, the appropriate entrance, accessibility and whether advance registration is needed. Opening hours and admission arrangements for the reopened house were not detailed in the latest update.
